Round, Revolving Dollhouse, One story Southwest Style

This was the first round dollhouse I made, and I used some vintage plans from an old Sunset Book called "Things To Make For Children."  These older plans have a slightly different, smaller scale, so converting them to 1:12 was really challenging. The center courtyard walls, where most of the doors are, were only 5" high, which just would not work in today's world, so I bumped them up to fit the standard scale doors and people, and in so doing, got myself into a whole lot of trouble! Changing the heights of those walls meant that the shape of the roof changed also, and suddenly there were angles and slopes, and it was really hard! So don't look too closely - I had to add a ton of trim to cover my mistakes and miscalculations.
Still, this is one of my favorite houses. I grew up in Phoenix, AZ, and there is a huge influence of Spanish-style architecture, which I really missed when I got married and started living in extremely cold climates! I love the idea of a home that is open to the outside, and having this open-air living room sounded like so much fun! The kitchen tiles are a mix from Modwalls.  Since the ceilings are so high, I thought it would be fun to raise the kitchen a bit and use the steps for extra seating for the outside patio area.
There are two bedrooms, with a bathroom situated between. All the rooms are the same size, and that meant that the bathroom would be extra big with a lot of wasted space. I decided to split it into two bathrooms - one for kids and one for the parents, with a bathtub that is shared between the two.
The little girls' room has a hanging bed which is a soap dish from Ikea, spray painted white. The play-size kitchen is an ornament from Hallmark. My daughter took the doll family outside one afternoon and posed them for portraits. I then printed the out in thumbprint size and used them for family pictures to put on the walls!
